We're in the desert!

Some initial observations about Arizona:
  1. It's hot. This isn't a surprise, but it's just ironic to me that this hot-and-sunny desert is even in the same country as the green-and-gray state of Oregon.
  2. Their freeways are bigger. Portland doesn't have the worst traffic ever, but it does get pretty bad when freeways end up bottlenecking down to two lanes--or sometimes only one lane! The Phoenix area has huge freeways and a complex freeway system which allow quick access to everything. Related to this observation...
  3. Everything is spread out. This is what the movie I Heart Huckabees refers to as "suburban sprawl." It takes about 15-20 minutes to get anywhere. I'm still figuring out if I like this or not.
  4. In-N-Out Burger rocks. We went out to lunch at this awesome burger place right after getting our rental car. Located only in the southwest, In-N-Out has three options for value meals: hamburger, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger. Keep it nice and simple.
  5. I love Mark Staples. Mark is the student ministries pastor at Red Mountain Community Church. We talked life and ministry for over an hour over lunch. Mark is a Godly man with lots of wisdom, as well as a good friend. Definitely pumped about the possibility of leading students towards Jesus with someone I love and trust!
Thanks for everyone who's praying for us in this process! We'll keep you posted on our experiences as much as possible!
