Intentional Chill Time

Despite what our calendar says, The Well did not have youth group tonight. However, I made a gut-based decision and challenged Gus the Intern to see if he could get six (6) students to show up to church anyways, just for some youth ministry socializing. He accomplished this feat with the power of text messaging. So we had about 9 students hanging out for two hours, just talking and laughing in our relatively empty church building. It was a good time to get to know some of the students better without the "formality" of youth group. Loved hearing their stories, jokes, and laughter! Junior highers crack me up!

Sometimes you don't need a big program or attractive event in youth ministry. Sometimes you just need intentional chill time. We'd been talking about some really deep theological issues on Wednesday nights (think terms like "hypostatic union" and "penal substitutionary atonement"). Taking a Wednesday night to just relax and enjoy one another's company can help keep things balanced. Life is all about balance, and not swinging too far to an unhealthy extreme.

Intentional chill time can bring a healthy balance to the headiest of theology!
