A New Experience at RMCC

Our church community is having Summer Explosion this week. While that sounds like an awesome junior high game night involving fireworks, SE is actually RMCC's version of vacation Bible school (VBS). The children's ministry is experimenting this year with moving away from the outdated term of VBS (seriously, how many kids really want to spend a week in school during their vacation?). They also have SE during the evenings--which I've never experienced--and have a theme of service for the week, including having small service projects designed for children. Really stoked about seeing the kids get excited about serving others!

Katie and I spent last night hanging out with kids, singing songs with hand motions, and encouraging the high school students that are going to Latvia. It was great to see our children's director, Brian, in his element. In church ministry, leaders and pastors are usually so busy with their arena of ministry (youth, small groups, children, etc.) that they don't regularly have opportunities to see other team members serving God in their own arena. It was a blessing for me to watch Brian lead the volunteers and spend time with the children.

A final highlight: watching Gus the Intern help lead the songs, including hand motions and a rap solo. I am not making this up.

Our summer is exploding all week!
