Thursday Randomness

Sometimes I think life would be better with a soundtrack. We could capture the emotion of a moment with a perfect lyric or musical swell. These are songs that will capture the summer of 2008 for me. You can even click on the links and it'll take you to iTunes for your downloading pleasure!

Enjoy the Mayward Summer Soundtrack Mix:

The Whigs - Right Hand on My Heart: Love the driving drum intro to this upcoming band from Georgia!

Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart: It's over 8 minutes of building instrumental beauty. Good for long car trips.

Coldplay - Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love: Yes, there are better songs off this album (Strawberry Swing, Viva La Vida), but I just love the driving, whimsical beat.

Mates of State - My Only Offer: This husband and wife duo have created a dance-inducing, foot-tapping, radio-happy, piano-driven little song that makes me smile every time I hear it.

M83 - Graveyard Girl: They are French and they are awesome. It sounds like a beautiful leftover from a Sofia Coppola film.

Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light: Play it loud driving with the window down on a warm night. You won't regret it.

Homer Hiccolm and the Rocketboys - As People Often Do: A sad-sounding piano ballad with some amazing drumming and vocals. Buy the entire album, it's that good.

Tim Hughes - Happy Day : We played this worship song at our junior high summer camp, and I loved the energy it created in our students!

Bon Iver - Skinny Love: Recorded in a Wisconsin cabin in the woods, the simple lyrics and acoustic guitar make visualize sitting on a summer porch, lazily watching kids play baseball in the park.

Landon Pigg - Falling In Love At a Coffee Shop: An unfortunate last name, but strong vocals and sentimental lyrics with an ethereal sound more than make up for it.

Jon Foreman - Your Love is Strong: I haven't heard Scripture sung more beautifully. The Switchfoot frontman has me hooked.
