The Top Three Films of 2009 Thus Far

Six months into 2009, and it's already a bit more disappointing than last year. A few of my most anticipated films have turned out to be mediocre at best. But there are a few diamonds in the rough, and I'm eager to see what the rest of 2009 holds. So here's my top three!

3. The Class: Technically a 2008 film, Entre de Murs feels like a documentary about spending a year in an urban French high school. The performances are sharp, the emotion is real, and the contemplative tone is challenging.

2. Star Trek: This is what summer movies are supposed to be like. Entertaining action, a well-paced story, and engaging characters, all set in outer space and under J.J. Abrams' capable direction.

1. Up: Just like last year, a Pixar film has captured my heart. Unlike last year, this film focuses on the beautiful adventure of ordinary relationships while having talking dogs, giant birds, and a flying house.

What're your top three movies so far?

  1. 1. UP
    2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
    3. Night at the Museum 2

  2. 1. Dance Flick
    2. Obsessed
    3. Knowing

  3. Brian, you missed "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li." ;)
