Youth Group Survey

Every so often, I'll hand out a brief survey to the junior highers in order to get a spiritual pulse on the group. It's far from scientific, but it's helpful to see what the junior highers are learning, aren't learning, and what God is doing in their lives.

Some sample questions:
  • What have you learned about God this past fall season?
  • Since the beginning of the school year, how are you more like Jesus?
  • What is one aspect of youth group you like?
  • What is one thing you'd like changed about the youth group, or one thing you'd like to do more?
  • Who on staff do you feel most connected with? Why?
On the most recent survey, I gave a large list out of potential teaching topics and asked the students to circle 5 they have the most questions about or would be of interest. Every time I do this, the results tend to surprise me. I generally expect a lot of students to circle the hot button topics, such as sexuality, evolution, and the book of Revelation. The most circled topics this time were as follows: heaven, spiritual disciplines (contemplative prayer, fasting, etc.), other religions, doubts about God, and the life and person of Jesus.

The combined terms of "junior highers" and "spiritual disciplines" seem like an oxymoron. Guess God is stirring something in their hearts. This should be a good season.

  1. Thanks for post I needed to do a survey about changing our Youth meeting time and wanted to add some meat to the survey on the fly.
