Latvia 2012

Riga, Latvia
Today I'll get on a plane with 20 other people--16 students, 4 adults--and fly to the tiny eastern European country of Latvia.

The last time I was there was four years ago. I was reflecting upon that trip recently, and realized something pretty incredible: 100% of the thirteen students who went on that trip are still following Jesus.

Every one of 'em.

Four of them have been my interns at some point since that trip, and all of the ones who haven't gone away for college are serving in various ministries in our church. Charlie has gone back to Latvia for an internship with Josiah Venture for the past two years. Sarah is also back in Latvia this summer serving as an intern in an orphan care ministry. Allison is currently studying Hindi in India, Ryan is a student ministry intern at a local church in the Phoenix valley, Erik and Cassidy are leaders at our church's other high school summer missions trip to Lancaster, and all of the others--Jake, Chelsea, TJ, Narelle, Josh, Heather, and Lauren--still love and serve Jesus. If there are any critics of short term missions trips, I firmly believe that experience in 2008 was a spiritual milestone and catalyst for all of these students.

Every time we bring a group of students to serve in Latvia, they encounter the kingdom of God. And once you've tasted a glimpse of the kingdom, it's difficult to live an ordinary life ever again.

Please pray for us, for protection and unity and wisdom and discernment and love for each other and the Latvian people. Most of all, pray for transformed lives by the power of the Gospel, both American and Latvian alike.

I'll be writing updates here on my blog, as well as posting pictures and updates on Facebook, so check back often to see what God does in Latvia!
