Take a Snow Day

We woke up this morning to our first snowfall of winter. White crystals continued to fall from the sky, adding to the slushy pale blanket covering the earth. Local schools have already made their decision: it's a snow day.

Snow days were always fantastic surprises in my elementary years. But we often don't get them any more as adults.

Perhaps we should.

It's an unexpected and unplanned day off. A day of rest. A day of play. A day of forced inactivity due to the semi-hazardous driving conditions and lack of emotional gusto required to put on layers of snow gear. It might not even need to actually be snowing; you might just need permission to take the day off.

Take a snow day. In the midst of our increasingly busy and frantic culture, a snow day might be just the refreshing interval we need.

I declare today a snow day. Get some rest and rejoice in the cold and crisp beauty of God's creation.
