A Parent's Guide to Understanding Sex and Dating, co-authored with my friend Marko. It's part of a five-part series of little books for parents (you can actually get all five of books here for a discounted price). These books are AWESOME for parents; they're short and sweet, concisely written and chock full of theological and practical wisdom for all of the parents in your church.
Books are awesome, but real-life people are better. So my friends at The Youth Cartel decided to take this one step further:
The Youth Cartel’s Best Ever Parent Training EVER.
That's right: two evers. It's just that good.
Here's what it's all about:
We youth workers know that parents have a greater influence on the spiritual lives of their teenagers than our youth ministries. And we want to help parents be more effective in understanding their teenagers and staying relationally and spiritually engaged. But sometimes it’s difficult to know how to provide meaningful help that goes beyond keeping parents informed of camp deadlines and event fees.
That’s where we come in. The Youth Cartel’s Best Ever Parent Training Ever is a robust half-day of training designed to be a major win for you and the parents in your church. One of our gifted and informed team members will partner with you to bring a couple sessions of great content to encourage parents toward engaged parenting.Session topics include:
- Completely Understanding Teenagers, Totally (Developmental Overview and Genderalizations)
- The Kitchen Sink on Your Teenager’s Brain (Understanding Teenage Brains)
- Reliving Your Youth (How Today’s Youth Culture is Changing)
- 45 Minutes to Social Media Brilliance! (Managing Social Media in Your Home)
- Helping Junior Be More Jesus-y (Engaging the Spiritual Life of Your Teenager: A Practical Session of Ideas)
So if you represent a church in Canada or the Pacific Northwest, and want to bring The Youth Cartel's Best Ever Parent Training Ever to your church, I'm your guy. ;)
One of the biggest pieces of data that has come from both American and Canadian research on the faith of teens and young adults is this: parents have incredible influence on their kids' spiritual development. Yet so many parents don't feel that way. They're unsure how to approach fostering spiritual growth in a holistic sense, one that makes faith less a compartmentalized part of one's life and more of a whole way of being. This half-day of training is meant to equip and empower the parents in your church and community to have a few more spiritual tools on their toolbelt, and leave feeling energized and encouraged to continue to parent their children with joy.
We don't think parents have to live in a cycle of discouragement or confusion. I'm convinced that the families in our churches can be Jesus-y little signposts for the kingdom of God, full of joy and peace and patience and kindness. I want to do anything and everything I can to encourage and empower parents in that mission. That's why this parent training thing has me stoked!
